Smalls Sliders, Ft. Walton, FL

Stansell handled the ground-up restaurant construction of a new Smalls Sliders in Ft. Walton Beach, built to the brand's standard prototype. The location includes a drive-thru, a commercial kitchen, and both indoor and outdoor seating.

What set this project apart was a habit of catching problems before they reached the field. Superintendent Ty Harding kept subcontractors coordinated and the schedule on track from start to finish, drawing on lessons from earlier builds.

• A clash between footer locations (the concrete bases that support the building) and plumbing stub-outs was found and corrected before the modular sections were delivered.
• ADA elevation differences, which affect wheelchair access, were caught early and worked out with the engineers.
• Stormwater and retaining pond conflicts that did not match the site plans were solved alongside the site contractor without delaying work.
• Client preferences for patio and site lighting were handled during the build, shrinking the punch list (the final fix-it list before handoff) and avoiding return trips for subcontractors.
